1st & 2nd Grade
Welcome to St. Paul’s Lutheran School!
Our Theme This Year Is……..
My name is Miss Cindy Bauder and I am the teacher for 12 first and second graders. I like to think of our classroom as a “family” atmosphere where we do things as a group, but we also have our individual instruction and work time. We love to sing and draw, read and write, and most of all talk about our Savior Jesus.
Four days out of the week we have Word of God lessons. On Wednesdays we have Chapel at 8:45. That’s also the day where we recite memory work. First grade has one passage a week and second grade has two passages per week. Below you will find the schedule for memory work.
After religion class we then move onto Math and Handwriting. While one class is learning Math the other class is practicing their manuscript and cursive handwriting.
On Mondays and Fridays both classes enjoy having a special teacher for Spanish. She is very much a hands on teachers with alot of enthusiasm to boot!
Our Reading program has a general concept, basal readers and a Guided Reading program which is taught in several small group settings according to their various abilities. English is taught three days during the week. The Spelling program I use is Words Their Way where each student has their own individualized spelling list that they work on each week. They put the words into practice every day and then are tested on them the end of the week. They work as partners with this program.
Science and Social Studies are taught in units every 2-4 weeks simultaneously.
Writer’s Workshop is a combined class at the end of the day. This class teaches various types of writing including Descriptive writing, Persuasive writing, Poetry, etc.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have SPECIALS which include Music class, Art class, and Physical Education. These special subjects are taught by various teachers on the staff.
We have snack time each day along with milk. Curious George is our “traveling buddy” who goes home with a new student each night. The students journal about their experiences with “George.” We have a hot lunch program with kid friendly food. Our recess/playground is one of a kind with not one but two jungle gyms, a ga-ga ball pit, basketball and plenty of grass for football or whatever game they would like to play.
Feel free to stop by anytime to check out the classroom. The kids and I would love to have visitors! Miss Bauder
