Honoring Christ Through Excellence

Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten!

I am beyond excited to work with your child this year!

Jesus Christ is the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever.         Hebrews 13:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your

own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He will make your paths straight.                                         Proverbs 3:5-6

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.             Philippians 4:13

Kindergarten is often viewed as the first step in a child’s academic journey. This amazing voyage is rewarding and full of adventures that will include the whole family. I encourage strong parent involvement and support in helping your child gain confidence through success, and celebrating the start of your child’s academic exploration!

Hope to see you soon,

Miss. Prusha

Language Arts

Kindergarten language arts is an umbrella term use to encompass letter identification, phonemic awareness, concepts about print, and writing, as well as spelling, and sentence structure. At Saint Paul’s we believe that all academic success is balanced on the ability to read and write. Therefore, my goal as your child’s Kindergarten teacher is to instill a love for reading and writing.

We do not use a “Basil” reader in Kindergarten at Saint Paul’s. We follow the ideas and philosophies of Guided Reading. This ideology is founded on the concept of allowing individual students to achieve at their own rate. In other words, it is a personal reading program. Coupled with strong concepts about print, and letter/phonemic awareness, students are allowed to move on to more challenging levels of reading when they show mastery.

Reading and writing are viewed as twins in our curriculum. The ability to express oneself through writing is crucial in school and we start from week one to explore and learn about this all important aspect. Journaling, writing weekly books and developing good spelling habits is a strong ingredient in our program.

In conclusion, Language Arts is a cornerstone that needs to be in place for children to have sure footing and gain the success and confidence they need to achieve in school! For a closer look into this topic please contact the school or go to your parent portal.

MathI Love School

The Kindergarten math curriculum at St. Paul’s follows the Saxon Math Model. Saxon Math has been around for a long time and is based on drill and practice. Starting with number recognition, sequencing, and patterns, this series forms a strong basic sense of addition, subtraction, time and money skills. Also, problem solving, (which scaffolds into the students reading skills) is another strong aspect of the Saxon Math program.

As with reading and writing our students are challenged, and those that demonstrate a mastery are moved at an accelerated rate. However, making sure there are no gaps in the process is crucial for student success and reviewing materials is critical to mission success. Problem-solving and the understanding that there is more than one way to get to an answer is one of the components that allow this program to be adapted to individual students needs.

Science & Social Studies via Core Knowledge

At St. Paul’s, in Science and Social Studies, we follow the “Core Knowledge” curriculum guide. Core knowledge is a program that is paired with state standards as to the content taught in each grade level. It is a broad-based approach allowing the teacher creative development in the content themes. The development of such cohesive unit’s supports and best fits the needs of the individual class and students. Both Social Studies and Science are addressed in this manner at St. Paul’s.

Serve Him - Copy

The freedom of using a plethora of educational tools such as, the internet, field trips, guest speakers, hands-on models, or films allows approaching each topic in a verity of ways that best fits a multitude of learning styles. This method opens the ability to connect between differing areas of academics and allows greater scaffolding between disciplines and ensuring greater success in all areas for our students.
